Welcome to our site
On your first day, you’ll descend to explore the C-58, a WWII-era U.S. Navy minesweeper intentionally sunk off the coast of Cancun. Sitting at approximately 85 feet (26 meters), this wreck is covered in coral and sponges and inhabited by giant groupers, eagle rays, barracudas, and jacks. This is one of Cancun’s deepest and most exciting dives, requiring advanced certification or prior experience with deep diving.
After the wreck, your second dive will be on a nearby reef teeming with marine life. The contrast between the man-made structure and the natural coral habitat makes this day visually and biologically diverse.
Your second dive day focuses on Cancun’s outer reefs, which are located beyond the bay, exposed to ocean currents and offering greater marine biodiversity. These dive sites are ideal for underwater photography and spotting large pelagics like barracudas, rays, sea turtles, and even nurse sharks.
- Dive depths range from 50 to 65 ft (15–20 m)
- Expect vibrant sponges, sea fans, and reef ridges
- Conditions may include mild to moderate current — perfect for drift diving
- Excellent visibility averaging 60–100 ft depending on the season
These reefs are part of Cancun’s National Marine Park, so they are protected and abundant with life — ideal for experienced divers seeking a more exhilarating underwater adventure.

FAQs – Wreck & Outer Reef Dive Edition
Yes, but it’s best suited for divers with deep diving experience or Advanced Open Water certification due to its depth (85 ft). We provide a full safety briefing and guide supervision.
Moderate to strong currents are common, especially at the wreck. We plan the dives accordingly and select dive sites based on safety and diver comfort.
If you’re Open Water certified with recent deep dive experience, we may allow it case by case. Please share your logbook and comfort level when booking.
Expect to see large schools of barracuda, eagle rays, giant groupers, spiny lobsters, and more. The wreck has become a rich artificial reef.
Visibility averages 70–100 feet and is typically excellent, especially during the dry season (Dec–May).
Yes. Outer reef dives often involve gentle drifts, making them relaxing and ideal for covering long stretches of coral.
Definitely! You can bring your own GoPro or request our photo/video services in advance for professional underwater shots.
Most dives last 40–50 minutes, depending on depth, air consumption, and conditions.
Yes! If you’re Nitrox certified, we can arrange Nitrox tanks for an additional fee. Please request this in advance.
Absolutely. Let us know what you’ll bring so we can prepare accordingly. We’ll also bring full backup gear for safety.
The C-58 is a former U.S. Navy minesweeper (USS Harlequin) used during World War II. It was intentionally sunk in the 1980s off the coast of Cancun to create an artificial reef. Today, it’s one of the most iconic wreck diving sites in the Mexican Caribbean, rich in marine life and history.
Yes, there are safe, open sections of the ship that allow for light penetration dives. Full wreck penetration is permitted. Entry depends on your comfort, certification level, and sea conditions, always under guide supervision.
Good buoyancy control is essential, especially inside or near the wreck, to avoid disturbing sediment and ensure your safety. Don’t worry — our instructors will assist with proper weighting and descent control.
It takes approximately 25 minutes from our marina to reach the C-58 dive site. During the ride, your dive guide will provide a full safety briefing and historical background of the wreck. We are the closer one located in the ocean not in the lagoon.
That’s totally normal! You can stay outside the wreck and enjoy the marine life around it. We adapt the dive based on your comfort level — it’s all about enjoying your experience at your own pace.
We occasionally spot nurse sharks, which are docile and harmless. They’re often resting under the reef or slowly swimming by. Seeing one is a highlight, not a threat!
You’ll use standard recreational dive gear. However, we recommend an underwater torch/flashlight to enhance visibility inside the wreck. Let us know if you’d like to rent one.
Not at all. Our boats are equipped with wide ladders and our crew is trained to assist with gear and comfort. Water entries are usually done via backroll or giant stride.
Yes! Use a torch or strobe to illuminate areas with low light. Maintain neutral buoyancy and approach slowly to avoid stirring particles. The wreck’s structure offers beautiful shadows and contrasts for wide-angle shots.
We monitor sea conditions daily. If current is too strong, we’ll either change the dive site or reschedule your dive — your safety always comes first.
Water temperatures range from 26–28°C (79–82°F), so a 3mm full wetsuit is recommended for comfort and protection from jellyfish or minor scrapes during the wreck dive.
If it’s been more than 12 months since your last dive, we recommend a refresher dive beforehand. This will help you regain confidence and brush up on key skills, especially before diving deeper or near wreck structures.

Diving with DeepLife was an absolute joy. We booked after arriving on holiday in Cancun and Eduardo was very helpful and responsive on booking emails and arranging transport. Added bonus was getting photos from Berto to remember our trip. I would completely recommend DeepDive and will definitely use them should we visit Mexico again.

I did 3 dives in one day including one deep dive (The Pit) and two shallow dives at Dos Ojos (The Bat Cave and The Barbie Line). They were all wonderful and unlike anything I have ever seen scuba diving before. The cenotes were beautiful and I hope to come back one day with my son. I would definitely use Deep Life Divers again.
